]]>The long days of summer may be over, but with the autumn season comes cool nights perfect for enjoying company and eating good food around a bonfire, days that beckon a trip to the local apple orchard, and soft flannel that’s made for an on-farm hayride.
Luckily, Indiana provides an abundance of fall agritourism activities, allowing families and kids of all ages to connect to agriculture in the form of farm animals, corn mazes, and fruits and vegetables that are in season during fall.
These recipes, courtesy of Farm Flavor, take advantage of that seasonal bounty with fresh ingredients including sweet potatoes, apples, pears, cranberries, and pork. Celebrate with Cider-Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Roasted Mashed Sweet Potatoes. The glaze on the pork joins the pumpkin trend, featuring a seasonal pumpkin ale as one of the ingredients, which is available at several breweries across the state.
Bring the Autumn Harvest Salad to your next autumn get-together and impress guests with both flavor and presentation. This dish features pears, blue cheese, dried cranberries, spicy pecans and roasted butternut squash, popping with color. It can be layered horizontally on a large platter or traditionally in a trifle dish. Either way, it’s delicious.
Cranberry-Apple Foster is a fall spin on traditional bananas Foster. This recipe amps up the flavor by cooking the apples in apple brandy, then serving them over easy-to-make cinnamon ice cream. You can even keep the cranberry-apple mixture warm in a crockpot for transporting, then spoon it over ice cream, pound cake, or angel food cake after reaching your destination.
Happy fall feasting!

]]>Ah, driving a car.
There is nothing quite like it. We learn it in our teens and continue driving well into our old age. There’s something about getting in the driver’s seat and feeling the steering wheel, hearing the engine rumble, and getting a hint of gasoline as the car takes off.
Well, if you love cars, especially old cars, muscle cars, sports cars, trucks, and more, we have a show for you!
Cruise Nights at Wicker Memorial Park are still happening for one more week. Next Wednesday, September 22nd join the community for a car cruise with fellow people around town. North Township Trustee Adrian A. Santos hosts the event, which includes food trucks, music, and free admission. Come check out some classic cars, get some delicious local food, and mingle with the HIghland community before summer comes to an end.
If you cannot make it September 22nd, there will also be a Halloween cruise on Wednesday, October 27th with a Halloween theme, costumes for people, and decor for the cars.
When: September 22nd and October 27th
Where: Wicker Memorial Park – Ridge Road and Route 41 Highland, IN
TIme: 4 – 7 pm
Information: Kelly Bridges 219-313-3934
Parking for the cruise opens at 3:30 pm. Custom, vintage, muscle, and classic cars are all accepted.

]]>The post Fresh Living: Local Farmers Markets Near Highland, IN appeared first on Hampton in Highland Blog.
]]>With summer in full swing, we are also in the heart of farmer’s markets season. When it comes to food, nothing beats fresh, local produce from local farms. Farmer’s markets provide small businesses and farmers to showcase their items to the community, and it feels good knowing your money is going directly into your community.
To highlight these people and all of their hard work, we wanted to inform our residents about farmer’s markets happening right here in Naperville. From fruits and veggies to cheeses, honey, baked goods, sweets, and more, these are the best local markets for you to enjoy!
Miller Beach Farmers Market
667 S. Lake Street, just south of Route 12 in Gary, Indiana
219-238-6758, or by emailing [email protected]
May – September, Sundays, 11 am – 1 pm
Just 20 minutes north of Whitcomb Terrace, and within walking distance of Marquette Park Beach, Miller Beach Farmers Market is one of the best. This is a great way to get out on a weekend and see both a fantastic market and get out on the water!
This market features a vast range of local foods and craft goods, including farm-fresh produce, baked goods, ethnic foods, honey, plants, fresh-cut flowers, handmade soaps and body butter, cheese, jewelry, and art. Outreach and education are important, which is why we also sponsor local nonprofits and feature them in the market.
This not-for-profit market relies on vendors and fundraising. Volunteers are a huge part of our organization, an extension of the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District.
Come enjoy the sunshine!
